It would only be improper if the MADE spotlight doesn’t shine on amazing talents like hers, as we took time off to have a chit-chat with Niyola, on her reign as the first lady of the record label/music group- EME records, headed by the super talented Banky W.
With so much love flowing through her veins, we could not help but notice how generously engrossed Niyola was throughout our chat, she spoke so much on different shades of her career and respect being the key to her personality.
My name is Eniola Akinbo, popularly or otherwise known as Niyola and sometimes Miss Nini . I am from Ilesha in Osun state and a performing artiste. My genre of music is what I like to call contemporary R n B/pop.
WE LOVE YOUR MUSIC, TELL US WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO DO WHAT YOU DO
Thank you. I get inspired by almost anything so in essence I would refer to life itself as my inspiration. Personal and impersonal experiences, things I perceive, conceived thoughts or even things I hear or see around me. Ultimately Life is my muse.
PLEASE LISTEN TO THE FULL REMIX ABOVE
HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR KIND OF MUSIC
My style of music is contemporary R n B /POP it is very modern yet with the core elements of Good old R n B with an infusion of some pop most times in the writing of the song and the production is almost always very contemporary as well but with core elements of today’s sound.
BANKY KEEPS SAYING HE HEARD YOU SINGING IN THE BATHROOM AND THAT WAS HOW YOU GUYS BECAME FRIENDS, TELL US A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THAT
It is as he said , we were at the Night shift Colliseum rehearsing for the first edition of “The Ovation Red Carol” and We were on a 10 minute break. Apparently Banky and I both went into the restroom (of course separate ones) and in my usual mode of breaking into song every 5minutes, I caught his attention unknown to me. As I stepped out, he accosted me and told me I had a beautiful voice and ever since we became friends and years after, I got signed to him
WOULD YOU SAY DOING MUSIC IN NIGERIA IS REWARDING TO YOU
So far, so fair. As I see everything in life, it all depends on why one is doing what one does. I chose to do music for a reason, and as far as I know, I am well on my way to fulfilling the purpose for which I agreed to tow this path.
IF YOU WEREN’T SINGING WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE BEEN DOING
That’s a tricky question, there are sooo many things I could do or know how to do but I most likely would have still been linked to entertainment as I studied Journalism and English Language
ARE YOU COMFORTABLE WITH SHOWING A “CONSIDERATE” AMOUNT OF YOUR BODY
Well it depends on what you deem considerate, I think it’s relative. I would show off my torso that’s definite and if I had to show off my body, it would have to be artsy and tasteful.
IS THERE ANY MAN IN YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW
If the question is if I am seeing anyone, the answer is No.
WHY? ARE YOU CONCENTRATING RIGHT NOW ON ONLY YOUR CAREER
I am concentrating on my career as I should but you don’t think that ever stopped anyone from dating. I just haven’t found anyone I want to be with enough
WHAT NIGERIAN ACTS WOULD YOU LOVE TO WORK WITH
Tu face Idibia, Praiz, Waje amongst many.
ANY PIECE OF ADVICE TO UPCOMING ACTS
Put God first and always be true to yourself
WE’VE NEVER HEARD REPORTS OF YOU BEING A DIVA OR BEING RUDE, WHAT KEEPS YOU HUMBLE
Anyone who knows me knows I am big on respect. I was raised to respect people and their personal spaces no matter who they are. Sometimes people mistake that for being s snob but that’s what it really is and I find that so many people in this part of the world don’t take that seriously. One doesn’t have to be rude or condescending to show superiority, I think Its a sign of weakness when people do that. I am confident in myself, so I don’t need to belittle anybody to feel special or great.
