With the VMA coming at the end of this month, Sunday, August 30, 2020, the 2020 VMA nomination list is finally out, and it is as massive as expected.
Among the nominees, Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga took the 2020 MTV Video Music Award nominations by storm, leading the pack with nine nominations each. The pop stars were able to amass the amount of nomination with their collaboration “Rain On Me,” earning seven nominations with the inclusion of video and song of the year.
Following closely behind are Billie Eilish and The Weeknd with six nominations each while Taylor Swift was able to gather a total of 5 nominations.
In keeping up with the trend of the year, VMA has introduced two brand-new categories, which are Best Music Video from Home and Best Quarantine Performance. These categories were created to celebrate the creative ways artists have been able to adapt to the shifting landscape.
Fans can now start voting across the 15 gender-neutral categories at this link until August 23. However, the voting for the PUSH’s best new artist category is scheduled to remain active in the show on August 30, 2020.
The 2020 VMAs will be airing live at New York City’s Barclays Center on Sunday, August 30, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. This will be marking the first live awards show since the coronavirus pandemic. The award show will be featuring a line-up that will span across all five boroughs. Also, the performances will be coming from various iconic locations with various health and safety measures in place.
