Nigerian writer and Ventures Africa editor-in-chief Uzodinma Iwealas debut novel, Beasts Of No Nation (which takes its name from a 1989 Fela Kuti record) has been adapted into a feature film- this is not really news but a release date and an action trailer was released recently.
Scheduled to hit cinemas October 16, the new film about Agu ( Abraham Attah), a young boy torn from his family and forced to join a unit of mercenary fighters in the civil war of an unnamed West African country.
New photos of Idris Elba who acts the brutal Commandant that recruits Agu have emerged.
The film written and directed by Emmy Award-winning True Detective director Cary Fukunaga was shot in Ghana.
Although some cinemas in the US have boycotted showing the movie, this critically acclaimed piece is already billed to screen in September at the Venice Film Festival (its world premiere) and the Toronto International Film Festival (its Canadian premiere).
