Donald Trump and his wife Melania made a stylish entrance to the Liberty Ball at the Washington Convention Center, to take their first dance as POTUS and FLOTUS to ‘My Way’.
It was the first of three inaugural balls they attended across Washington D.C. on Friday. The first was the Liberty Ball at Washington Convention Center then proceeded to Freedom Ball where Trump said: ‘The fun begins now’. A third gala, dedicated to the country’s armed forces, was held at the National Building Museum
They attended with the rest of the family before leaving at 11.30pm to spend the first night at the White House
DONALD TRUMP’S INAUGURAL BALL REMARKS
The Liberty Ball
‘Well, we did it. We did it. We began this journey and they said we, we and me, we didn’t have a chance. But we knew we were going to win and we won and today, we had a great day.
‘People that weren’t so nice to me were saying that we did a really good job today. They hated to do it but they did it and I respect that, I respect that.
‘I have to say, the crowd was unbelievable today. I looked at the rain which just never came, you know we finished the speech went inside, it poured, then we came outside. It’s like God was looking down on us, I will tell you.
‘I want to thank all of our supporters. My number one supporter Melania, what she puts up with…thank you honey.’
‘With this whole day and yesterday (there have been) so many incredible people who have made such a difference. Vice President Mike Pence. No more “elect”.
‘You are going to see things happening over the next few weeks. Oh you are going to be so happy. We want to see great things happen for our country. We want to make America great again and we will, and we will. So now it’s a tremendous honor to have the first dance with Melania and were going to be joined by the Vice President, some very wonderful, wonderful children as we go along. They happened to be mine and Mike’s children.
‘Again, I want to thank everybody. We always felt we were going to do it. It’s a movement that they’ve never seen any time, anywhere in the world. Now the work begins. There’s no games, we’re not playing games. The work begins.
‘We love you, we are going to be working for you and we’re going to be producing results.’
The Freedom Ball
‘Hello folks. Our first lady.
‘Well we just want to thank everybody. This has been an amazing journey for all of us. It’s been an amazing journey. Now the work begins. We have to get it done and we will get it done
‘There is so much spirit in our country. We are going to do things, we will not be taken advantage of anymore, OK. We will not. We’re going to have those companies come pouring back in. You’re gonna read about em.
‘In fact, let me ask you. Should I keep the Twitter going? I think so! I think so! The enemies keep saying it’s terrible but it’s a way of by-passing dishonest media.
‘We weren’t give a great chance but we knew we were going to win. Many of the people in this room went to those rallies with us. I saw one on TV tonight, incredible family, her and her husband said we’ve gone to 42 Trump rallies.
‘When we went in, I really felt that last week in particular I said, how can we lose? I am so looking forward. I just left actually the Oval Office because our great General Mad Dog Mattis was approved tonight.
‘Remember the theme: Make America Great Again and I’ve added, since getting to know so many people in this country, greater than ever before.’
Salute to Our Armed Forces
‘What a great honor. These events are going on all over the city, we’re having a lot of fun. What a day it has been. Our first lady has been working very, very hard.
‘I just want to thank you on behalf of Melania and myself and all the family and the millions and millions of people. The job you have done is absolutely incredible. Absolutely incredible.
‘This is our military. This is our law enforcement, this is our firs responders. You are amazing people. I like you for a lot of reasons. I like the fact that you all voted for me.
‘I just met your joint chiefs of staff. And they are incredible, I’ll tell you what – they know what to do, they know when to do and they know what to do fast. So we’ll see what happens. We have a great country and we want to do what’s appropriate.
‘We have been pushed around, lots of bad things have been happening, but I think you’re going to see a big improvement.
‘General Mattis was just approved by the Senate. The first one. General Kelly was just approved by the Senate. Isn’t it something? The two generals are the first ones. With all the people, all the politicians and the generals get approved first. Maybe that’s the way it’s meant to be.’
‘This is very special. We have done two of these, we had big crowds. 10,000, 12,000 and there’s two more I’m supposed to go to first of all, did you hear the speech today? Actually even the media said the crowd was massive.
‘That was all the way back down to the Washington Monument. What was supposed to be rain turned out not to be rain, it was beautiful. You are special people, you are great, great people. I have your back. We are going to do great things for our country.
‘I ran, the journey started 18 months ago and people sad we don’t have a big chance. We went to number one, about two weeks or three weeks into the polls, then we just stayed there – it wasn’t so much me, it was you, I did a good job as your messenger but it all began with a theme. And the theme is make America great again.
‘I’ve gotten to know the people of our country so well, I’ve been all over, and we’ve had tremendous victories. We have the greatest people on earth. We’re going to make America greater than ever before. I want to thank all of you, you’re very, very special people.
‘Honey, say something.’
Melania: ‘Thank you all for your service. I’m honored t o be our first lady. We will fight we will win and we will make America great again, thank you.’
In lighthearted speech, he asked guests if he should keep his beloved Twitter account. The room gave a resounding ‘yes’, to which Trump responded gleefully: ‘I think so! I think so! The enemies keep saying it’s terrible but it’s a way of by-passing dishonest media.’
The couple attended a third, final ball at the National Building Museum before spending their first night at the White House.
The Armed Services ball was the smallest of the three events and was where the First Family spent the most time.
During his speech there, Trump talked to members of the military serving in Afghanistan via satellite, warning the crowd that there was a six second delay.
‘How is it over there? How’s it going?’ Trump asked service members. ‘What question do you have?’
‘Don’t be like these people. Don’t be too tough on me,’ he said, motioning to the press risers, situated halfway back in the room.
Two servicemembers got on the microphone and congratulated Trump for his swearing-in.
‘By the way, I have to tell you, it’s a 10 second delay,’ Trump said. ‘But I like them much better than I like the media.’
‘These are much finer people, nicer people,’ he cooed. Another four members congratulated Trump on his big day. ‘Why can’t all people be like that?’ the president mused. ‘Six questions and six congratulations.’
While he was also onstage he touted the three contingents who were supposed to be in the crowd.
‘This is our military, this is our law enforcement, this is our first responders,’ Trump said.
‘You’re amazing people. You’re amazing people. And I like you for a lot of reasons, but also I like the fact that you all voted for me,’ he added.
